How binary to text conversion works
Computers store text as numbers. In the binary (base-2) system each character becomes a group of 8 bits — a byte. The byte 01001000 is 72 in decimal, and ASCII code 72 is the letter H. This tool splits your binary into bytes, converts each to its character code, and decodes the result as UTF-8, so accented letters, Chinese characters and emoji survive the round trip.
Going the other way
Switch to Text → Binary to encode. Each character is converted to its UTF-8 bytes and each byte is written as 8 binary digits. Multi-byte characters simply produce multiple 8-bit groups.
FAQ
What is binary code?
Binary code is the base-2 number system computers use to store data: every value is written with only the digits
0 and 1. Text is stored as groups of 8 binary digits (bytes), where each byte maps to a character via encodings like ASCII or UTF-8.How many bits are in one character?
Standard ASCII characters use 8 bits (1 byte) each. In UTF-8, characters like Chinese glyphs or emoji use 2 to 4 bytes. This converter decodes full UTF-8, so multi-byte characters come back correctly.
Can I paste binary without spaces between bytes?
Yes. The converter strips spaces, commas, line breaks and
0b prefixes, then splits the stream into 8-bit groups automatically. The only requirement is that the total number of bits is a multiple of 8.Is my data sent to a server?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste is uploaded anywhere, so it is safe to decode sensitive payloads.
